Bring your Discord server over

You already built a server once. This copies its shape into a Frenz community so you do not lay out the same channels a second time.

It brings the structure across, and only the structure. Members and messages stay where they are, because importing either is against Discord's developer policy. Nobody is moved, nothing is announced, and your Discord server is not touched at all: Frenz only reads.

What comes across

What stays in Discord

Do it with a template

This is the way that works for most servers.

  1. In Discord, open Server Settings, then Templates.
  2. Press Create Template, give it any name, and copy the link. It looks like discord.new/abc123.
  3. In Frenz, open your community, then Manage, and find Import from Discord.
  4. Paste the link and press Check it.
  5. Read what it says it will do. Nothing has changed yet.
  6. Press the import button, and the layout is built.

You need to be the owner or an admin of the Frenz community. You do not need to be anything in particular on Frenz to make the template: that part happens in Discord, and any server owner can do it.

If your server is too big for a template

Discord refuses to build a template once a server passes a thousand channel permission overwrites, which is exactly the kind of server worth importing.

For those, paste your server id instead of a link, and invite the Frenz bot to the server. It reads the same two things a template carries, the channels and the roles, with no limit.

To find the server id: in Discord open Settings, then Advanced, and turn on Developer Mode. Right click your server's icon and choose Copy Server ID.

If Frenz tells you that importing a live server is not switched on yet, the bot is not running on your side of the world yet. Use a template link instead: it does the same job for anything under Discord's limit.

After it runs

Look down the channel list and check it is the server you remember. If a channel is missing, the preview said so before the import and says so again if you run it a second time.

If your Discord server used a ticket bot, you may see it offer to clear out leftover ticket channels. Those bots make one channel per ticket, named something like 912-sara, and what lands here is an empty shell: the messages could not come across, and Frenz has tickets built in. Only channels nobody has posted in are ever removed, and you get to see the list first.

Questions people ask

Will this delete anything I already have?

No. The import only adds. Everything is matched by name, so a channel, category or role you already have is left exactly as it is.

Can I run it twice?

Yes, and it is safe. The second run adds only what is genuinely new. It is the normal thing to do after adding a few channels in Discord.

The one thing a second run does change: a channel you already had that was sitting outside every category gets filed into the category the template puts it in. It was loose to begin with, so it loses nothing.

Why is a channel missing?

Three reasons, in order of how often they happen.

The preview lists everything it skipped, and why, before you import.

A channel that was private in Discord is open here

If a channel was visible to nobody but Discord admins, it arrives without a lock. Frenz managers can always see every channel, so a lock that shuts everybody out would have been a lock that does nothing. Set the roles you want on it in the channel settings.

Why are some names shorter?

Frenz caps a channel name at 40 characters and a category or role name at 30. Longer names are cut to fit rather than dropped.

Discord says my template link does not exist

Templates can be deleted in the same screen they are made in. Open Server Settings, then Templates, and check yours is still there. Copy the link again from that screen: a link typed from memory is usually the problem.

What happens to forum and announcement channels?

An announcement channel becomes a text channel. A forum becomes a text channel too: Frenz has no threads yet, and flattening it loses less than leaving it out. A stage channel becomes a voice channel.

Does my Discord server change?

No. Frenz reads a template, or reads the server through the bot. It never writes anything back, and it cannot: nothing here has permission to change your server.

Do my members have to do anything?

They join Frenz and join your community, the same as anybody else. There is no link between the two accounts unless they sign in with Discord themselves.
